How the Windy City Hall
Came to Be
SM
The first
chapter of the Trident International ever to exist in the city of Chicago
originated in the mind of its founder, John Schultz, when he was a member
of Trident Toledo and living in Fort Wayne, Indiana. During his
participation in various club events and attendance at the runs of other clubs
across the Midwest, he gradually developed ideas as to what sort of a leather
club he might like to form, should the opportunity ever arise.
In December,
1992, John Schultz attended the Rodeo Riders run at the Holiday Inn in Evanston,
Illinois, whose theme was " The Trial of Colonel Mustard." There, he
met Rob Ridinger, at that time a GDI. They found themselves compatible and
agreed to work on forming a life partnership, one of whose projects would be the
establishment of a Trident chapter in Illinois. Prior to this time, the closest
halls of the International to Chicago were Trident Toledo and Trident Detroit.
The early months
were marked by many long-distance phone conversations while, as John Schultz put
it later , " I was the brains in Indiana and Rob was the legs in
Illinois." Among the many tasks was the location of a home bar for the new
chapter and its chartering by the Clearinghouse, at that time held by Trident
Ann Arbor ( later Trident Michigan ) . In keeping with the requirements for the
starting of a new chapter, the first three members of Trident International
Windy City were John Schultz, Rob Ridinger and Ed Luisi of the Rodeo Riders, an
associate of Trident Toledo. The chapter was officially chartered in August 1993
and held its first bar night at Touché the same month. At this time there were
only two leather bars in Chicago, the Eagle and Touché."
